VOORWAARTS CODE OF CONDUCT FOR LEARNERS.
CODE OF CONDUCT(Learners)
1. A learner
should behave in such a way that it reflects the ethics and mission of the school;
must never discredit the school in any way by his/her behavior, or undermine order
and discipline through his/her actions;
must refrain from undisciplined behavior against teachers;
must always respect fellow learners’ human dignity;
must show the necessary respect towards all persons in authoritative positions;
including the School Governing Body, teachers, prefects, class leaders, captains of
sports teams and parents.
2. Learners acknowledge the need for order and discipline in the furthering and upholding of the learning process.
3. Learners acknowledge the fact that self-discipline and maintaining the Code of Conduct as well as the school rules, will lay the foundation for order and discipline.
4. All learners are bound by the Code of Conduct, whether on the school grounds, on
organized tours or in any circumstance where a learner can be identified as a learner of Voorwaarts Primary School.
5. Learners accept the fact that non-compliance to the Code of Conduct will lead to
punishment.
MISCONDUCT/TRANSGRESSIONS:
1. A learner misbehaves when he/she disobeys the rules, regulations or Code of Conduct
of the school.
2. Should the rules be broken or the Code of Conduct be disobeyed, a learner stands
accused of serious misconduct or less serious misconduct.
3. Less serious transgressions include breaking the rules of the school and any matter
not considered as serious transgression.
4. Serious transgressions are the following, except if changed by the MEC:
4.1 the use of or being in the possession of or being under the influence of any
addictive substance, including but not limited to alcoholic beverages, cannabis
or
any cigarettes or tobacco:
4.2 the use or possession of a dangerous weapon;
4.3 the circulation or possession of any form of pornography;
4.4 committing fraud, theft or any other criminal act;
4.5 possessing stolen goods, theft or any other criminal act;
4.6 vandalism or injury to property in any form;
4.7 assault and the use of violence/bullying;
4.8 any form of defamation, intimidation or spiritual and emotional harassment;
4.9 absence from school, school periods or compulsory school functions without a
legitimate excuse;
4.10 the use of crude language or swear words;
4.11 violating the school rules or the Code of Conduct on a regular basis;
4.12 any action/behavior that brings dishonor to the school;
4.13 any other behavior considered by the School Governing Body to be serious
enough to expel a learner temporarily or permanently from school;
4.14 failure to appear before the disciplinary committee when summoned to do so or
refusing to answer questions asked by the person who brought the charge o
any another member of the disciplinary committee’;
4.15 the organizing of or participating in activities without the clearance from the
principal which could interfere with the academic, cultural or sports activities or
with the functioning of the school;
4.16 giving essential information about the school to the media or any other
organization;
4.17 any effort to be dishonest during a test or exam by helping or trying to help
another learner, by enlisting or trying to enlist help from another learner, or to
use or try to use a written text except a text clearly approved by the teacher;
4.18 copying of the whole or a part of other learners assignment meant for
assessment by the teacher, including the copying of information from printed
sources without recognizing the source. Normally it is expected of the learner
that the preparation as well as the formulating of an assignment must be the
learners own original effort. Co-operation between learners is sometimes allowed
by the teacher and is even advisable. The formulation of the assignment is
however, expected to be the sole effort of learner.
4.19 assisting or aiding any learner in wrongdoing;
4.20 committing any act or deed punishable by court of law;
4.21 gaining access or trying to gain access to the data files of the school through
the unauthorized use of computers.
